One of the two start pitchers this week that might be worth the risk
While there are certainly a few names out there this week that I love as two start pitchers for the upcoming fantasy baseball scoring period, for the most part, I’m really not a huge fan of some of the available options. This could be one of those weeks where you just have to grin and bear it. You might have to take a few starts on the chin here and there if you’re looking to double up on starts this week in order to excel in categories like wins and strikeouts. Of course, if you can’t afford the losses in other categories, you might just want to stick to guys who have just one start but a better matchup. But for the risk takers out there…

News & Notes
So an up and down week last week, huh?
| Start of the Week: | Josh Johnson | 0 W 2.45 ERA 1.45 WHIP 12 K |
| Bust of the Week: | Hiroki Kuroda | 1 W 5.14 ERA 1.00 WHIP 6 K (1 start) |
| Sleeper: | Gio Gonzalez | 2 W 1.38 ERA 0.92 WHIP 11 K |
| Super-Sleeper: | Ross Ohlendorf | 2 ER in 0 IP; left due to injury and put on DL |
Ratio-wise, Josh Johnson was a decent pick for the Start of the Week, but it’s always a bummer when your main guy gets a pair of starts and no wins. Gio Gonzalez, on the other hand, made for an outstanding pick as my Sleeper of the Week. Too bad, Ross Ohlendorf couldn’t follow suit and ended up leaving th egame with a torn muscle in his back. It’s actually the same injury that knocked Jake Peavy out fo rthe year, just not as bad…no muscle detachment. And as for my Bust of the Week, what can you do…? The Dodgers shuffled up their rotation a little and Hiroki Kuroda only got one start for the week. Not a great start, but certainly not bad enough to warrant the Bust tag. Now for this week…
I’m taking the cop out and going with Roy Halladay as my Start of the Week. I almost picked Chris Carpenter, but I thought the Doc was a safer pick. He’s looked good at Dodger Stadium in the past and the Brewers have certanly been known to disappoint in games. I think Halladay should be just fine.
My Bust of the Week goes to Jonathan Sanchez who has not looked good against either team he’s facing this week. Both the Dodgers and the Rockies have beaten him up in the past and all three teams will be fighting for playoff contention. Unfortunately, after hearing Sanchez’ guarantee against the Padres two weeks ago, it doesn’t look like he thrives too well in pressure situations.
Since I didn’t like many of the options out there this week, I just went with a Sleeper pick and am skipping the Super-Sleeper aspect. And for my pick, I’m taking a pretty big chance goin gwith Triber starter Justin Masterson. His numbers against the White Sox (1-2, 2.78) and the Mariners (2-0, 1.16) are solid and he’s looked pretty decent in 2 of his last 3 starts. With my loss of Ricky Nolasco (I just can’t trust him again this season), I have to start taking a few risks and I think now is the right time to take a shot on Masterson. Wish me luck!
That’s about all I’ve got for you today. You might just want to play it safe this week rather than take the chance this late in the season, but if you need to make some big moves, who knows….maybe you need some risk in your fantasy life.
Good luck and I’ll see you all in the money this year!
